For quite some time, water dispensers have been a common item on refrigerators. Many also have filters to insure that you always have clean water. At some point an indicator light will shine to let you know it time to replace the filter. After you replace the filter, it is important to reset the counter for it.
Each brand may have it own way of resetting the counter. Usually the instructions are on the inside of the door that contains the dispenser. They might also be located near the filter itself. The owners manual will have it as well. Just in case that none of them are available, here are a few of the common ways of resetting the filter:
Door Switch:
Open the refrigerator door. Either on the top or the side, there is the switch that turns the light on when the door is open. Push the the switch 3 times.
Button near filter:
If your refrigerator has a button near the water filter itself, push and hold for 3 seconds.
Dispenser panel control:
On the control panel for the dispenser, push and hold the water button for 3 seconds.
If the above 3 does not reset the filter, another method may be needed. In that case, you will need to consult the manual or contact the manufactuer.
If you need new filters, Pick N Pull Appliance Parts carries many of the top water filters.

Cooler weather ahead
As the calendar moves into September, it is a reminder that cooler weather is around the corner. What is not cool though is broken appliances. It doesn't have to be that way. Many Appliances can be fixed far cheaper then buying a new unit outright.
I hear it all the time... It too intimidating to work on your own appliances. I assure you that most of the time, you can do with very little fanfare. Some basic tools such as a cordless drill, some sockets, a screwdriver and pliers and you can handle most repair problems.
If you haven't checked out us yet, what are you waiting for?

Fun in the Sun
It been a little while since the last post and I wanted to share what has been going on around the place here. In addition to the website, we now have an actual store. Better yet, it is open to the public. Stop by and say hi sometimes. Sales have been picking up. This month we are on track to doubling, possibly tripling last months number. That itself is always good news.
Time for a little fun in the sun. Being about halfway into the summer, what kind of fun stuff have you done? The California State Fair is in full swing here. Lots of energy and excitement from that. Share some stories and will post some of them.

Preventative Maintenance
It has been awhile since my last posting and I do appologize for that. There has been a lot of excitmenet the last few weeks. One thing that I want to talk about today is preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance is one way to make sure your appliances will keep working when you need them to. Like any mechanical device, they can sometimes fail no matter what you do. A little attention on a consistent basis will tip the odds in your favor. The following is a few basic things that doesn't require calling out a technician.
Make sure your washer and dryer are level. Try rocking them back and forth, left and right. If they move, the legs needs to be adjusted. A rocking washer or dryer causes premature wear and tear.
Use a washing machine cleaner. Using too much detergent can cause a build up of residue in your washing machine. This residue can become sticky and/or create an odor. This can also happen if you use the wrong type of detergent as well. Affresh makes a tablet that you simply drop in your washer and run it through a cycle or two depending on the build up and odor. It breaks up the gunk and helps make sure your washer works well.
Use a dishwasher cleaner. Just like a washer, using too much or the wrong type of detergent can cause a residue build up. It can also cause spotting on your dishes. Affresh makes a tablet that you place in the dish washer and run through a normal cycle. It breaks up the residue and helps keeps you dishwasher clean. Hard water can cause a build up as well. There are a variety of different types of cleaner to help with that as well.
Ice Machine Cleaner. Again, hard water can cause issues here as well. Mineral build up can affect how well you ice machine works. There are a variety of cleaners that can be used.
With any chemical cleaner, be it a liquid, gel, or a tablet, it is crucial that all directions are followed. If it says to run two cycles, then run two cycles. Clean up any spills promptly. By maintaining your appliances on a consistant basis will go a long ways to insuring they will work when you need them to.

This morning, a blanket of fog has covered the area. Visibility was rather limited. It can be scary driving through thick fog. Sometimes, that how people feel when it comes to fixing their appliance. It doesn't need to be scary or intimidating. A lot of folks have never done anything like it before and naturally they are apprehensive. Here are some tips to help you get through your first repair job:
1.) Take your time and allow yourself time to accomplish the task.
2.) Get your tools out ahead of time. Many tasks can be fixed with a Phillips and Flathead screw driver, pliers and a socket set.
3.) Take some notes along the way to help you reassemble everything.
There is a great feeling of pride and confidence after your first repair job. Use that confidence to help grow your skills and abilities. Soon that fog and apprehension over fixing an appliance will lift away.

Another week of getting stuff done. Things are really beginning to take shape around here. There is a lot of work involved with a new business. Everybody is excited and anxious for things to take off. It is far too easy to get caught up in things without taking care of the necessities. This is equally important when fixing your own appliances.
Our appliance tech mentioned in the last post about getting yourself to a clear and clean work area. Expending on that includes making sure you take care of your tools as well. I'm not saying that each tool needs to be polished after every use but rather that we don't neglect them. Leaving them outside overnight, not wiping them clean of oils, paint, goop, etc... Some brands can tolerate abuse better then others. That is not a reason to not take care of them. No one wants their appliance to breakdown. It is even worse when we are trying to fix them and we can't find a tool we need. Worse then that is that we do have the tool but it is busted from neglect. Take care of your tools so that when you do need them, they are ready to go.
